The Object of Our Chase
It seems like human nature to chase after something. A relationship, a job or promotion, an adventure. As humans we tend to crave the things we don’t have. We run full speed ahead towards things that we feel might help us feel whole or happy. And while they may give us a temporary high, we forget that the only true satisfaction comes from Jesus.
Social media has not helped the situation. It seems like every time I get on Instagram I am bombarded with other people's good things. Whether it be a wedding, a dream job, a trip to Europe, or a cute new pair of shoes, every time I click on that rainbow colored app I am reminded of the things I don't have, yet deeply aspire to have. It can be hard; heartbreaking at times. As I sit there and scroll I feel a desire to somehow chase after those things. I feel an urge to join a dating app or book flights to a new and exciting place. I am sure you probably know exactly what I am talking about because you've most likely felt similar urges at times.
When we feel those cravings to chase after something creep up, we need to take a step back and remember that we have all we need with Jesus. I know you've heard that a million times, but that is because it is 100% true! He created us to be fully and completely satisfied by Him alone. Nothing or no one else will fill us like He will. We feel the desire to chase after the things of this world because we believe those things will fill us in a way they were never intended to. Only Jesus can satisfy that deep longing in our souls.
As believers, our job is to be patient and to chase after Jesus. He is the sole thing our minds should be focused on running after. When your gaze and attention are fixed on Him, your purpose is being fulfilled. We were created for relationship with Jesus. Our sole purpose is to pursue Him with our whole being.
The minute you stop chasing after things of this world and start chasing Him, you will notice a joy like no other that can’t help but bleed into every aspect of your life. A joy that overpowers any other earthly desire or wanting. Life is sweeter when Jesus is the object of your chase.
Chasing Jesus does not mean we can't go on that trip to the Bahamas or try out a dating app. However, we need to make sure we aren't looking to those things for satisfaction that can only be provided to us by our Creator. I believe God wants us to enjoy this life and live it to the fullest as long as we aren't chasing after the things of this world for temporary satisfaction. We are only made whole by the blood of Jesus and the covenant that was established with Him.
Take a moment to reflect on the things you are chasing right now. Are they things that honor Jesus? Or are they things that might be detracting from your relationship with Him? If it’s the latter, that’s okay. You can still make changes. Jesus just wants you. His arms are wide open, waiting for you to run to Him.

Romans 8:5
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
