Lately, I've been pondering what it looks like to have fun with Jesus. It is an interesting concept to consider, but one I feel is important to think about. What does it look like to have fun with someone that is not in the tangible, but surely is with us everywhere we go. It's probably going to look a little different than having fun with a friend, but that doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't happen. I firmly believe Jesus wants to engage in fun with us.
When you evaluate your life, when are you having fun with Jesus? What are you doing to bring fun into your relationship with Him? Are you out in nature? Are you being creative in some way?
If you’re like me, maybe you enjoy going on long drives with worship music blasting. As I drive, I find myself so thankful for the life I've been given and the ways He has blessed me. Whatever it is for you, I think He wants fun to be part of our relationship with Him. Prayer and Bible reading are great and vastly important ways to connect with Him in an intimate way, but there is most definitely something to be said about meeting Jesus in the lighthearted moments of life as well.
Search your life and see where you might be bringing fun into your relationship with Jesus. If you can’t identify something, I've compiled a list of five things you could potentially do to incorporate fun into your relationship with Jesus. Here's a short list of some places you can start.
Turn that worship music up! Like I mentioned above, one of my most favorite ways to have fun is by blasting music and singing at the top of my lungs. Sometimes, I even dance a little! I promise, once you turn those tunes on, you will be filled with such joy from and for our wonderful God. Get outside. Sunshine is magical. It is an instant mood booster. God created this Earth to be enjoyed and explored by His people. One of the best ways to experience God is by getting out in His creation and being reminded that this is a big world, and yet your Father knows you by name.
Be creative. Creativity is another gift from God. We are complex beings with great imagination and an ability to use it to create. As you've probably figured out by now, I recently redesigned my blog. It was such a fun project to work on with a purpose of bringing more honor to God. Pick up a paint brush and see what your hands are capable of or grab a camera and snap some pictures.
Have fun with others. There is nothing quite like experiencing God while being in a group with other believers. Part of having fun with Jesus is inviting others along on the adventure.
Do something you love. Most likely you already have a hobby or two. Engaging in those can be another way to have fun with Jesus. Read a book, bake a cake, travel. All of those things can and should include Jesus!
I think the most important thing to remember here is that having fun with Jesus can look pretty much like anything as long as you are honoring Him. The first step to having fun with Jesus is simply asking Him to be apart of it. If you want to have fun with a friend, you have to ask them first. Pray that Jesus would make His presence known to you, pray that He would reveal more of Himself to you through whatever activity the two of you are doing together.
Ecclesiastes 2:24-25
"There is nothing better for a person than to eat, drink, and enjoy his work. I have seen that even this is from God's hand, because who can eat and who can enjoy life apart from Him?"
